Sound IS Frequency
Pregnancy is a beautiful time for expansion and inward reflection. Mine was a magical experience of goddess wisdom, cultivation of relationships, healing, nature, breath and a new relationship with sound.
During my second trimester I developed Sciatica so badly I could hardly walk, some nights after doing a short shift at the local café, I would come home in tears. I decided not to see anyone, because when I felt into the options, none of them felt right. I have been banging the drum of self healing for so long, and I have done so much research in this area, specialising my studies in neurological training and physical upgrading through shifting emotional and mental patterns.
I have always known intellectually our potential for self healing, but never fully tested it to its limits. I knew that now was a beautiful opportunity to live this.
So I used my skills to take me on a beautiful journey of healing. I wrote pages and pages of feelings down on the feeling of not being supported both in the physical and the non physical.. anything that came up, I wrote about. I released so much in just this alone. I chose to not speak of my pain in a way that made me feel like a ‘victim’, so most of the time I would just breathe through it and thank it for showing me an area of myself that wanted to be observed and loved before I gave birth… And I kept myself open to the ‘right’ modality to be shown to me.
Enter sound healing. Sound had been, previous to this experience, a beautiful vehicle for me. My first experience with the cosmic capability of sound happened organically when I was sleeping in a tent one night and listening to the crickets chirping so loudly. The sound melted my physical form, as I lay there, and I dissolved into the folds of the universe. I have also played with sound bowls and enjoyed those experiences too. But how amazing when I started building a relationship with my own instrument, my voice!
The voice does not lie, you can feel it raise and fall, quiver, constrict and project depending on your inner state.
I started using the sacred vowel sounds with intention and focused on passing, or breathing this sound through my energy centres. From the first day, my pain shifted, and as I practiced every day, my pain not only went but my back got stronger. If I started falling into old patterns, particularly worrying about money, it would return instantly, and leave again within hours if I practiced my vowel toning! It blew me away!
I also used toning during my actual birth when I was having contractions, as it felt as though they were preparing my birth canal and aligning me so that my birth was smooth, I toned before I went into heavy labour so that those around me were also ‘tuned’ into me.
Exploration of the sounds and each energy centre deepened my relationship with my body & allowed me my own understanding of these energy centres, not just someone else’s interpretation of our ‘Chakra system’.
Developing my own understanding was another world and perhaps another blog post.
Here are the sounds I used:
Although they are just a guide, intent is more important, in my view.
Base- huh – any guttural sound you can make really, the deeper the better.
Sacral – ooo as in y’ou’
Solar Plexus- ohh as in g’o’
Heart- ahhhhh – as in h’ear’t
Throat – eeeyyyee- as in ‘I’
Third Eye- aayyy – as in H’ey’
Crown- eeeeee as in b’ee’
Play with the sound and the intention, as well as colour and pitch as you move through each centre. Pay attention to the restrictions, notice what you feel, notice how it changes daily. Use intention when you release the sound. Make it fun.
Breathe through each centre 7 times, Breathe deeply and release the sound on the out breath. Allow at least ten minutes after you have finished to be in silence to integrate the frequencies you have just changed. If I was short of time, I would do just 3 tones on each centre. Ask your partner or anyone to sit opposite or with you, and explore with the sounds you can create together to literally ‘tune in’. Turn your vowel sounds into a song of intent when you feel sad, happy, loving, joyful!!
I also used sound when I needed to ground, when I felt a bit off, if my mind was racing & if I was struggling to ‘get into’ my heart. I found sound (vowel toning) just organically came out during contractions & labor.
It’s really that simple!
Enjoy your journey with sound!
